In 2025, Patrick Albán proudly introduces his newest project: Patrick Albán and His Buena Vista Social.
This band is the result of decades of musical experiences, influences, and personal inspiration that have shaped Patrick's career and artistic vision.
"Many years ago, while visiting Quito, Ecuador, I walked into a small bar and heard a group performing music unlike anything I had ever experienced. The sound was rich, authentic, and deeply rooted in tradition. I immediately wanted to know who they were.
When I returned to the United States, I discovered the group was called The Buena Vista Social Club. I was so inspired by their music that I asked my longtime musical partner, Juanito, to learn a few of their songs with me. At the time, many Latin bands in the Washington, D.C. area were focused primarily on high-energy salsa, but I was drawn to the flavor, history, and storytelling found in Buena Vista Social Club's music.
Some people, including myself, thought of these musicians as older artists carrying on a beautiful tradition. Perhaps that was why many local musicians weren't interested in learning their songs. But I believed in the music and began incorporating it into my performances.
The response was incredible. Over the years, audiences embraced these songs, and today it's common to hear Buena Vista Social Club music performed by Latin bands throughout the region. I can honestly say that their music has played a major role in my own musical journey.
And now, after all these years, I find myself becoming one of those 'older guys' too!"
For many years, Patrick Albán & Noche Latina has been an important part of Patrick's musical career, particularly during the legendary Madam's Organ years in Washington, D.C. The band created countless memories and introduced audiences to a unique blend of Latin rhythms and world music.
Today, Patrick finds himself inspired by a slightly different direction—one that focuses more heavily on acoustic Cuban music while also embracing the American acoustic artists who have influenced him throughout his life.
Among Patrick's greatest musical inspirations are:
Cat Stevens
Jim Croce
Jose Feliciano
The Buena Vista Social Club
The Gypsy Kings
This new project allows Patrick to combine these influences into a fresh and distinctive sound. Along with a talented lineup of musicians, the group performs beloved Cuban classics, acoustic favorites, and carefully selected songs that Patrick has always dreamed of bringing to the stage.
While the band can still perform traditional Latin dance sets when requested, the primary focus of Patrick Albán and His Buena Vista Social is creating a more intimate, acoustic, and authentic musical experience.
"I feel like I've come full circle. The music that inspired me years ago continues to inspire me today. I'm excited about this new chapter and grateful for every opportunity to share it with you.
I don't know how much longer I'll be able to perform, but while I can, I want to do it the way I've always done it—my way.
Thank you for your continued support. I can't wait for you to meet, hear, and experience the new band."
